Parents and Guardians,
I would like to encourage all students in 2/3M to enter in the Premier’s Reading Challenge.
I have listed some information below to assist in clarifying how the Premier’s Reading Challenge works.
When does the PRC begin?
The Challenge runs from 1 February to 1 September 2012.
What will the students receive as recognition of completing the challenge?
It is a condition of entry that students entering and successfully completing the Challenge will receive a PRC certificate and appear on the PRC Honour Roll.
What level books should my children choose?
K–2 students who can read simple chapter books independently are encouraged to attempt the 3-4 Challenge.
To experience a book a child can listen to the book, participate in a shared reading of the book or read part or all of the book independently.
How many books do my children need to read?
Students from K-2 need to read 30 books, this can include 25 books from the PRC list and 5 free choice books.
Students in Year 3 need to read 20 books, this can include 15 books from the PRC list and 5 free choice books.
Click here to go to the PRC Book Lists
Where do I record the books that have been read?
I will send home a reading log. Please complete the details of the book read. It is very important to include the ID numbers as this information is used to log the record electronically. When your child has completed the challenge please return the record to school and I will input the data.
To successfully complete the Challenge your child must have an online reading record entered and validated by 1 September 2012.
The certificate shows the student’s name and school. Only the students’ name will appear in the Honour Roll with no other identifying factors. Participating schools appear as a separate list.
Students, whose online entries are received by the closing date of 1 September 2012, will have their certificates sent to the school in Term 4.
Only one certificate per year will be issued to each student regardless of the number of books read.
Students who complete the Challenge for four years receive a gold certificate.
It is a wonderful challenge to be involved in and assists in promoting a love a reading. I encourage all students to participate in the challenge. It is not a compulsory activity.
